The Revival of the Gracie Challenge
Community events can be a goldmine for generating leads for your martial arts school—if you know the right approach. One of my clients came up with a brilliant idea: challenge festival-goers to get up off the ground in 30 seconds. If they succeeded, they’d earn a free month of membership plus a uniform. Inspired by this, another client took it a step further.
They offered a twist: either hold down a BJJ Black Belt for 30 seconds or try to get up while being held down. To sweeten the deal, anyone who succeeded would win $1000 in cash. Every participant had to fill out a waiver and received a free week of training just for signing up.
And the results? People were lining up for this incredible challenge. In just two hours, this school captured 27 leads. The crowd’s excitement grew, attracting even more interest in their booth and their school.
This was the G-rated version of the legendary Gracie Challenge, an inclusive contest that drew crowds and generated a surge of leads almost instantly.
